During the 1997-98 school year, someone arranged the chairs in the Ad Building chapel in prayerful positions, and placed filled Dixie Cups on the floor, including a number of them spelling out “AMEN.”

A Thresher (yearbook) commentator — who seemed to know an awful lot about this prank — claimed that the perpetrators, in order to get into the Ad Building without using a key (one of the three cardinal rules of Bethel pranks), had to have at least one person hiding inside from 10 p.m., when the building was locked, until 12:30 a.m.

The same commentator also expressed the belief that the “AMEN” indicated “a way of saying that pranks are a good thing to do.” Maybe that’s why Dale Schrag always says “Amen” at the end of each chapel service?
